Architecture as a Career
by Roger Bartlett
On leaving school the ‘Bonk’ had arranged an interview for me with an Architectural practice in Gloucester Place, I signed up for day release studies at the Herts College of Building. ONC and HNC exams qualified me as a member of The Institute of Builders and qualification as a Member of the Society of Architectural and Allied Technicians.
I worked in and around architecture for forty years; Pure Architecture, Commercial Architecture, Interior Design, and Project Management. Along the way I designed and built my own house. Two years of evenings and weekends for an outlay of £14,000 in 1972.
Being made redundant at sixty I joined the Ambulance service qualifying as a High Dependency Ambulance Assistant, conveying patients in and out of Hospitals and Hospices, supporting the A&E teams.
Now happily retired and attempting to stay safe in these Coronavirus times.
