Barnsbury Boy - John Tythe - 1961-1966
Barnsbury and Highbury merged after the summer holidays in 1966. There may have been a sixth form located in Camden Road for a while though, but I don’t think there would be any 1967 magazines.
I left BB in 1966 when it closed and had to go to Highbury to collect my CSE exam Certificates. It was the only time I set foot in the place and was challenged by Rhodes-Boyson as I crossed the playground. A Roar of “YOUUU BOOOOY!!!” was directed at me then I was quizzed on why I was not in uniform. What an obnoxious man!
I had started my employment with the GPO Engineering Dept. on 30th August 1966, and had been given time off to go to collect the Certificates.
By September 1967, the Camden Road site was fully operating as the North London College for Further Education, which the site was originally constructed for. The College moved from its previous location in the Working Men's College, Crowndale Road, NW1, which I attend in 1966 and then I was back in the Camden Road building in 1967.
To my surprise, Mr Matthews was still there!
