Yes, I think the website is a great idea. I left Barnsbury in 1963. I went straight into the Army as an apprentice in the Royal Army Medical Corps. I left the Army in 1974. Since leaving Barnsbury I never kept in contact with anyone. Although once when I was on leave I went to Amsterdam to watch the Arsenal play Ajax in a European Cup game. On the boat going over I bumped into Dave Woozley (1958). My next contact was after joining FRU and attending the re-union do. That was a very enjoyable time, what I remember of it. It was good to see a few old friends. I have met up with Rob Kirkwood (Professor, 1958) few times since. Last Friday, 28th June we had breakfast in an Italian cafe along Upper Street, Islington. I was quite surprised when Rob tried to wreck the place! I'll leave you to ask Rob what happened. You could not have scripted it!
To be perfectly honest I do not see this web site as a platform for ex Barnsbury Boys who have 'done good'. This should be a site for all of regardless of whether we have been a 'success' or not. If anyone could give a meaning of ‘success’ I would be interested to hear. In the end we are all Barnsbury Boys regardless of what path we have taken or what cards we have been dealt. For instance, wouldn't it be great if we could help any of our colleagues who are in any sort of difficulty. Just a thought. To me it is important that we can respect each other and be sensitive. Oh well, I'll get down off my soapbox now.
When I have read through some of the entries on the FRU page I have seen that quite a few have done a fair bit of travelling. Maybe we could start a 'Barnsbury Rough Guide to the World'. May come in handy with the holiday season approaching. Recommended resorts and hotels etc.,
I have had a very interesting and varied life with many experiences around the world. I am very happily married with two children. Now I am retired, I am in the process of moving to South Wales. Should be moving in August sometime. When you are next in contact with Roger Ruthen (1958), please give him my regards.
Once again, Sandy, thanks for all your hard work in setting up the site. [ it only took another ten years - Ed ] There is so much more that I could share about myself. I'll leave it and wait and see how the site works out. Maybe we could have a section of funny or dangerous situations that we have found ourselves in. (Being confronted by Mr. Sharr would come into that category.) I wonder if any of the old teachers are alive. I remember that Mr. Gough was quite young so he would probably be in his late sixties now.
